Kenangan tentang Deli Plaza
I read Jinet post about Deli plaza and it brings back tons of memory to me. Oh…
Nostalgila masa lalu dulu ah..
Like Jinet, I grow up with that plaza too.
My mum always says that they used to bring little Kathie to there to take some ride at the playground sth like that. I had the picture but I don’t know which plaza it is. Sometimes my grandpa will bring me there with Damri (this bus has gone with the wind as time pass). Aha, so I’ve shown my interest in taking this machine ride kind of thing since I was a kid. No wonder I love the theme park rides.
It used to be our (me and family) all time favourite shopping place. Saturday night was our family going out time before changed to Sunday. My dad always brings us to Deli Plaza. Sometimes drops us first if it’s so crowded to look for parking. It’s so often we go to Jollibee (or Jollybee, I forget) sth like KFC, for dinner. I will have one or two sayap fried chicken with plain rice (Ah Yes, we must have rice! Borrow kfc new thing for a while)and eat with my ten fingers, no spoon whatever. KFC, Texas, Jollibee taught me how to eat rice with my 10 fingers. Those are the place where I can practise use hand to eat. And I don’t think I drink Cola at that time but mineral water or tehbotol or others. Til now I’m still not use to Cola. Other than Jollibee, Kalasan is our other choice. I lurphhh the chicken to the bits. Oh my.. Nyummy nyummy yummy..
There is this bakery named ‘President’ (if I don’t recall it wrongly) opposite supermarket at Deli Plaza. We always go there to buy bread for my breakfast before go to school tomorrow or tea time. There is this one bread that I luv so so muchhhh which has margarine or whatever yellow sweet cream on one side. It’s so simple and still so ho ciak. Oh my..Tambah laper..’Nelayan’ on the 1st floor that connect Sinar and Menara is my favorite place too. It’s quite often that I go there for yamcha (dimsum) either with friends or family. Alrite, I know it should be called dimsum, while yamcha is drink tea. But I was so used to that word, yamcha = dimsum = Nelayan. I can order whatever dish that I want, with leng hong kien my favorite one. I had my 16th birthday there with my closest girl friends. That also marks the end of my cold war with one of my primary friend. And also my first time celebrating birthday since primary school. It’s the place where I had Old&New (31st Dec) dinner with family plus auntie, uncle, grandparents few years back. This place always crowded during lunch and dinner hour.
Opposite ‘Nelayan’ is computer store. Each time I pass by, I give a glance on the laptops and computers there and wondering when I can have one. Cos it’s like everyone has P4 either PC or laptop while mine is still P2.
I used to watch movie in the cinema at 3rd or 4th floor Deli Plaza, ‘President’ theater, which only has 1 theater. So, normally only those box office movies is screening inside. At that time, I think it was the best cinema in town although it just has 1 theater. Clean – no cockroach or mice running here and there frighten the audience, comfortable chair, clear sound, no screening half way then stop and continue. Compare to Thamrin, Perisai, Empire, oh my so damn bau and jorok lagi. I remembered I watch Terminator3, Spiderman, Xmen2, Matrix don’t know which one.
There is a period during my 3rd year of junior high school, my parents move to Jakarta. So, sometimes me and my bro will follow my auntie to Deli with her ex-boyfriend who is her husband now and they have 2 kids. I won’t forget the old Kijang, which have no seats at the back because it was taken out to put stuffs everyday. So, I will have to bring small chair and make sure that I won’t fall. She will bring me and my bro to eat ice cream at ‘Fountain’. I always spare some time to go Fountain at Thamrin Plaza for the ice cream whenever I back to Medan.
Now I know how it feels like, when you are dating and have small kid squeeze in and follow you wherever you go. -__-” All thanks to my bro who always follow me and my boy to malls on last CNY. That’s not bad though. At least there is someone keeps on talking nonstop and it feels different from the usual.
Deli was the furthest plaza from my house. My mum hardly let me go there with becak mesin. But one day in my 2nd year of junior high school time, I break that and go with Janny by becak mesin. I remembered she went there looking for HelloKitty bag that looks alike with mine which is pink in color. Yeah, we used to have so many things in common, plus almost the same short hairstyle, we look about the same. That time Hello Kitty stuff was so in and hot. In the end, she can only find the grey colour a bit different from mine. Aha, that shop is Art Station if I not wrong where we used to buy presents from there. Now it has transform into fugly shop with so little thing.
If I go out with my friends and no one fetch me home then I will take becak mesin alone or with friend. Struggling so hard to talk about the fee with the Abang there.
Few years ago, Deli was crowded with people on weekend. It was the hottest mall in Medan where everyone hang out there. Three years ago since Sun Plaza stand so firmly in Medan, it has lost the popularity. Even my 15years old bro don’t wanna go to Deli already since Sun Plaza is there. He said Deli is kuno already. Wtf? -__-” Habis manis sepah dibuang. Apa daya, waktu mengubah segalanya.
It reminds me of Benteng. It used to be the most grand restaurant either for wedding or family dinner. Upper class people will celebrate there. But now, new and more grand restaurant come. Oh my, I forget the name already. Then there is Kesawan Square, so hip few years ago. Now Merdeka Walk has take over it I think.
Medan is changing. Apartments are built here and there. A row of houses opposite mine, had changed faces too. What I used to see when I was a kid, is no longer there. When things can’t fight with time, it has to go. All those will just stay in the mind. Sebuah kenangan yg tak bisa kembali lagi.Aiyoyo, I not yet ‘rain’, tears not yet come out, it’s already raining outside. How am I gonna go to doctor later? Aduh..
