Snack’s name
Choosing a name for a snack is harder than choosing a name for a new-born baby I think. You can’t share the same name with other product if the name has been registered. While someone’s name can be the same with other people. In a class with 40 students, there might be at least 2 people who share the same name. Sometimes both don’t have a surname and the teacher just call them name 1 and name 2. That is just in a class, not even a state or a country.
The problem with snacks is, we have so many company who did snacks business. Indonesia is so big, so many snacks around, not only those in the hyper mart shelves but also sundry shop or even small warung at the road side. We don’t know whether this name has been used or not, been registered or not, until we produced it and problem comes, we get reported to the court.
Recently there is this case where the snack that we produce shares the same name with a snack from Jakarta, and we have to change the name for the client because it was registered. We have printed some and have to finish the stocks before produce another new one for the client. I can’t guarantee that this won’t happen again in the future. We can’t be doing a big scale research from Medan to Jakarta to other states just to check the names every time we want to produce a new snack which only cost Rp.500/pack in the market. Every week, every month there is always new snacks coming out. I just hope that there will be a center that keep the database of the list of snacks’ names around Indonesia. Or else I will still scratching and banging my head to the wall to think of the names. Something that is sell able, unique, easily to remember, and hopefully no one use before. Almost 4 months I work, there is only 1 name I think of was choosen and finally approved. That’s better than nothing.
