Wedding dinner and angpow
I went to a wedding dinner with the parents last night. There is at least 10 wedding dinner I have attended in 8 months time. Every month there would be one. From the friends that I know well to the relatives that I never know they exist. 
There is one coming in two weeks time, the ex colleagues wedding.
One thing that I notice, if the couple is rich and had the wedding dinner on the huge famous restaurant, people will give them HUGE angpow. I mean, in terms of money. On the other side, if the couple is from lower to medium class and held the wedding dinner at some cheapo restaurants that only accomodate 20 tables or in a house with home cook, people will give SMALL angpow.
They will say, give the angpow base on the place (restaurant) and the type of food. One table in a famous restaurant is at least IDR.1.000.000 while at the medium cheapo one, they have the economy package from IDR. 500.000. For the first type of restaurant, the angpow goes from IDR.100.000 per person. For the second type, it goes below IDR.100.000. Bottom line, the angpow is like the seat ticket. People pay to eat.
But I think, the rich one has the money to spend on the expensive restaurant. Instead of giving the huge angpow to them and make the richer become richer while poorer become poorer, why don’t we give it to the one with tighter budget (if not to say ‘bo lui‘)? Because some people will use the angpow to pay the wedding dinner and other stuffs. Be a Santa once in a while.
