Kue bakul/Nien Gao for CNY
Tong tong tong jiang! I can hear the Chinese New Year songs at almost everywhere in the town, from malls to markets. It is just 2 weeks away. Everyone is so busy buying stuffs, cakes, accessories, new clothes, cleaning the house, and so on.
Like any other years, my mum is going to bake the nien gao / kue bakul herself and sell them through friends and mouth to mouth advertising. There is two types; wrapped in plastic and bananas leaves; with small and big sizes. Then pack in the ‘Chinesey’ paper box, no brand name only.
Mum has set up the price when suddenly get the news that the government gas will increased 80% of the normal price. You do the math. Some ingredients’ price also hike up.
Well, everything increased. Hopefully, the angpow $$$ will increase too.
