Music & Lyrics (2007)

I just watch this movie on Astro HBO during the weekend. The good thing about Astro is, the show will be aired few times in a month. I didn’t watch the ending on Saturday and I caught it up yesterday afternoon. :)

It’s a comedy romantic movie by Hugh Grant (Alex Fletcher) and Drew Barrymore (Sophie Fisher). Roughly, it’s about Alex, the 80s singer from PoP band whom somehow have to come out with lyrics in a few days time for a famous teen singer. Somehow Sophie came in and they became a team; in writing lyrics & melody and on bed (oh what else).

Music&Lyrics

One of the quote that I like is, when Alex asked Sophie to just spit out the lyrics because it is JUST lyrics. And this what Sophie replied :
“A melody is like seeing someone for the first time. The physical attraction. Sex.
But then, as you get to know the person, that’s the lyrics. Their story. Who they are underneath. It’s the combination of the two that makes it magic.”

I definitely agree with that, in terms of listening to the music and how she related it to people. When I was attracted to the song’s melody, I’ll look for the lyric. When I get to know the lyric, I’ll fall deeper for the song. The soundtrack of this movie is simple yet meaningful. ;)

Way Back Into Love

(Drew Barrymore)
I’ve been living with a shadow overhead,
I’ve been sleeping with a cloud above my bed,
I’ve been lonely for so long,
Trapped in the past,
I just can’t seem to move on!

(Hugh Grant)
I’ve been hiding all my hopes and dreams away,
Just in case I ever need them again someday,
I’ve been setting aside time,
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind!

[Chorus]
(Both)

All I want to do is find a way back into love.
I can’t make it through without a way back into love.
Oooooh.

[Verse 2]
(Drew Barrymore)
I’ve been watching but the stars refuse to shine,
I’ve been searching but i just don’t see the signs,
I know that it’s out there,
There’s got to be something for my soul somewhere!

(Hugh Grant)
I’ve been looking for someone to shed some light,
Not somebody just to get me through the night,
I could use some direction,
And I’m open to your suggestions.

[Chorus]
(Both)

All I want to do is find a way back into love.
I can’t make it through without a way back into love.
And if I open my heart again,
I guess I’m hoping you’ll be there for me in the end!
Oooooooh, Ooooooh, Ooooooh.

[Middle-eight]
(Drew Barrymore)
There are moments when I don’t know if it’s real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation

[Chorus]
(Both)

All I want to do is find a way back into love,
I can’t make it through without a way back into love,
And if I open my heart to you,
I’m hoping you’ll show me what to do,
And if you help me to start again,
You know that I’ll be there for you in the end!
Oooooooh. Oooooooh. Ooooooooh. Oooooooh. Ooooooh Ooooooooh. Ooooooooh.

Finding love is always a great theme for a movie. :P
