Behind cheapo broadband

I always believe that good thing won’t come in a cheapo price. Even if it does, there must be something fishy behind it. But doesn’t mean that something expensive equal to good thing though.

InternetMurah

Anyway, I saw this ad on Analisa daily yesterday. The ad said that, unlimited internet connection, 24×7, up to 512kbps is ONLY IDR.350.000 per month! No need to buy any equipment some more. Sounds so inexpensive or rather affordable compare to others that offer unlimited connection. Even SPEEDY from Telkom is IDR.750.000/month plus 10% tax.

But, I smelled something fishy here, a hidden cost behind the very cheapo price. I couldn’t wait but to pick the phone and dial the number to find out the truth. Jreng Jreng Jreng…

Yes, there is no need to buy any equipment. They will lend it for me BUT I have to pay IDR.1.000.0000 first.

Yes, the monthly fee is ONLY IDR.350.000. BUT I have to pay 3 months fee in advance, which makes it becomes IDR.1.050.000.

TOTAL is IDR.2.050.000 before I can enjoy the unlimited internet connection.

Alright. That is not cheapo for me even though it already covers the 3 months fee. But at least it is cheaper than 3 years ago when the installation fee and the equipment was already more than IDR.3.000.000.

I guess I have to be satisfy with the current 50Hour package, 384 kbps, IDR.200.000, from SPEEDY (Telkom). If I exceed 50 hours, it is IDR.1.500 per hour, which is quite reasonable compare to the Dial Up era. But I hate the 10% tax.

I wonder when will Indonesia have an affordable unlimited connection? By affordable, I mean it’s less than IDR.300.000. How I miss Streamyx (from Malaysia) right now.
