Brainstorm over number plate
It never came across my mind that we will have a headache choosing the number plate for the new car. Normally my parents just took whatever number that was released. Never want to choose or want to have number 8 in it.
The number plate in Medan is formed by BK XXXX YY. BK is Medan code, XXXX is the numbers (max 4 numbers), and YY is the alphabets (normally 2 alphabets. 1 alphabet is quite expensive). Initially Dad wanted to have 1188 MM, but it wasn’t available anymore. So, he chooses other number that contains number 8 too. Oh well, Chinese likes the lucky number 8 very much.
The combination of that numbers and alphabets (MM) wasn’t available either. Duh. So, we had a small and quick brainstorm for other alphabets:
- I suggested GO, as in ready, set, go! So we can go further. But parents said it could mean negative, go = khi (Hokkien) = die.
- Then Mum said, how about VV, victory victory. It could read as W, short form of Wong also. But Dad said it sounds like girl’s name, ViVi.
- Next one, KE – initial of my name and my bro’s name. But when Mum read it in Chinese slank, it became KHE which means die.
It is only 2 alphabets but it seems to be so hard to find a good one. We have to see it from more than 1 language’s side; English, Hokkien, Mandarin, and Indonesia language. In the end of the day, my Dad picked the initial of my bro’s name. -__-”

It’s always a dilemma when comes to choosing the lucky numbers, especially for us chinese.
