Where is the missing contact lens

I wear contact lens during day time and glasses during nigh time. This morning, I had it on like usual and continue doing my work. Suddenly I felt there was something inside my left eyes and it was so uncomfortable. I tried to reposition the lens by touching my eyelid but it didn’t get better.

After a while, my vision became blur. I can’t even read the words of the colon cleanser’s bottle that was put a few meter from my working table. Oh well, the lens was missing behind my eyes again. I rolled my eyes in front of the mirror and touching my eyelid to get it out. I’ve been doing this for don’t know how many times since I use this lens few months ago. I should have changed to other brand but I can’t do that yet. Cause this is a special-made lens for my minus eyes and sang kuang (problem while seeing the sunlight) and can last for 1 year.

Come back to my story, this is what I got after trying to find the lens inside my eyes.

Obviously it is not the full part of the lens but just 2/3. I was panicked and thinking where was the 1/3 part of the lens? I don’t even want to think how it could break into 2 pieces inside my eyes. I spent more than 30 minutes trying to find the other part but it seems to be nowhere inside my eyes. It isn’t anywhere near my computer desk or my t-shirt too.

I google-d and found about the same problem from some people. There were stories where one slept with lens and woke up with dry lens which cracked into pieces and it falls out from their eyes, or lens was lost inside one’s eyes, dried up and came out from one’s eyes after 2 days, etc.

I do feel a little uncomfortable with my left eye. But I’m not sure it is because the missing lens is somewhere behind my eye or it’s the after effect of poking and rolling my eyes while looking for the missing lens. I’ll consult a doctor if problem still persist. It’s an eye, my window to the world, that I’m talking about.

However this incident doesn’t make me scare of wearing lens again. :P It’s not about looking good in lens, but glasses is such a hassle. Bless those whom has a normal eyesight.

Edit:
I found the other part!!!!! *so happy* After 3 hours of hiding behind my left eye, the other 1/3 part of the broken contact lens decided to just slipped out from my eye.

I could feel there was something going to ‘come out’ from my eyes. And, here it is. Thanks G.

Wow… luckily you found all the parts. I wud have been worried too.. I love wearing lens but stopped because it was simply too much hassle plus I do have dry eyes.. so i end up having to lubricate them to often resulting in smeared eyeline.. :(

Wow. That’s painful! I’ve never had it break while inside my eye but I’ve put it on, noticed there was something ‘off’ and when I took it back out I noticed that it had a tear in it. I can’t wait to get laser eye surgery!

    LadyJava,
Yea, lucky me or else.. *can’t imagine*

    Fragileheart,
To my surprise, it wasn’t painful at all. :P More to uncomfortable only.

    Shien,
Contact lens is too small to be found. :P

This happened to me before except that the whole lens went to the side of my eye. I panicked at first and softly poked my eye a bit to locate the missing lens. Thank goodness I found it quickly.

    Sasha,
It happens to me quite often. :P

  • That sure would be weird digging through your eyes looking for broken pieces of contact lens. Glad you are ok.

The contact lens case is often a harbor for bacteria and as such, should be replaced regularly or cleaned. Cleaning of a lens case involves briefly placing the case in boiling water after having manually cleaned the case. If you have a spare pair of lenses in your medicine cabinet, try to replace the solution and clean the case every two weeks. You may purchase new cases for pennies and often your doctor will provide you with free, sterile new cases if you ask.
