I´m having a similar problem when I convert dollars to Euros. Most my revenue from blogging is paid in dollars but when I exchange it for Euros a good cut goes away. 
I remember times when dollars worth much more than Portuguese currency, now it´s the opposite!
Americans would come to my country and would live (spend holidays) like kings, not anymore...
I´m with you in this, I hope the dollar goes up.
Hope you get you digital cam anyway.
