*Ranting mode on*
I’m not sure if lazy is the best word to describe them, probably irresponsible is the right word, but whatever. I have no intention to write this post until boyfriend told me that he couldn’t online. Not because of the lousy connection from Streamyx, but because the housemate (also the house owner) hasn’t paid the internet bill! This is not the first time. Sigh.
I really don’t understand what is going on in their mind. If they can afford going clubbing, buying branded shoes that cost hundred Ringgit Malaysia, etc, why can’t they afford to pay bills on time? Why do they prefer to put it there for months then only pay when the internet line/electricity/water has been cut? Do they get a discount price if doing so? Paying bills is just a click away nowadays. It can be done from home (thanks to internet) as long as your Bank account is not empty.
Now, looking back into my past experience with housemates (male, female, gay), I can see that they have a few things in common:
1. Want to cook but never want to wash the dishes
They loved to leave the unwashed dishes in the sink for days to weeks. From the bowl where they ate instant noodle to the leftover soup, rice, etc. As if all those plates and bowls were transparent after they finished with the cooking and eating. This will not only create a dirty kitchen but also a yucky smell that will make you want to puke on the spot. I used to help them washed but I stopped doing so, as they were getting on my head and took me as if I was their maid. Ugh.

Yucky worms (or whatever it is called) from this unwashed Curry (or was it some soup?) pot.
2. Throw rubbish into the bin inside the house but never want to throw it outside when the bin is full.
They could collect all the rubbish (not only dry rubbish but also wet one from cooking and the leftover) for days until the yucky smell said Hi to them. Like the above story, I used to be the one whom threw the rubbish when the bin was full. But I was sick of being the only one doing this for 365 days in a year. Dammit! What is so bad with touching the rubbish bag huh?

I can’t believe that I can survive living in that house with such a messy environment. Whew!
3. They take care of their look, clean their rooms but left the rest of the house (living room, kitchen, bathroom) untouched.
I remembered that we (the girls housemates and I) used to do the house cleaning together during the weekend. But it didn’t last long, probably less than 6 months. After that, it became this situation: I cleaned and swept my room until my room’s door, the rest of the house was not my problem already. Sigh. I am glad that I didn’t need to use the share bathroom.

Thanks G this was not my bathroom sink else I would be puking instead of brushing my teeth.
4. Want to use the electric, water, internet, phone, but never want to pay.
For some period, I was the one whom collecting the money and paid the bills. And for some period, the housemate was the one whom in charge of paying the bills. Both cases have the same ending, which is late payment. It was either.. they were late in handed their part to me or they were too lazy to pay it themselves.
Thanks to that, I had experienced this: internet was cut, I was doing my laundry session when I realized that the water service has been cut, I just woke up and realized that the electricity has been cut! Dammit! I handed the money, but why couldn’t they spare their super-duper-precious-time to pay the bills?
Pfiuh.. I feel so much better now. Time to end the rant from this melancholy-organize-clean-freak. I hope to have a more organize-not-selfish housemate in the future, if I ever move out from my hometown later on. If I can choose, I’d rather stay on my own without sharing and getting the above experience again.

March 5, 2009 at 5:23 pmI do know some people who are like that as well. When you see them, they are the epitome of cleanliness and decency and who look like they are the ones who pay their bills on time. But when you really know them, you will see that beneath that surface, they are NOT. Sigh.

March 5, 2009 at 7:47 pmthough i did not live in rented places before, I’ve heard countless of horrible stories about housemates from my foreign friends.
Sometime their housemates even bring back their own friends and make lots of noises late into the night…
Haiz, people should learn to be more considerate
