Thrifty Ideas #128: Watch Movie on Wednesday

We went to watch Avatar on yesterday night, cause Wednesday is movie day or something like that, where ticket price is cheaper (RM6) than usual (RM9) – price varies depends on cinemas.

The queue at ticket counter

Being a small town (not yet a city), Sibu has two cinemas only if I not mistaken; Star Cineplex at its own building and King’s Trioplex at Premier Hotel & shopping complex.

The cinema here still uses manual ticketing system. Movie’s show-time is sticked on the movie poster instead of showing it on a TV screen. Seat number is written at the back of the ticket (N14 at the above picture) and show-time is written manually too (8.30 at the above picture). Quite old-school if compare to cinemas in Medan. :P

The sound system and the screen is not bad. But, the toilet inside the theater is quite dirty and they definitely need to change the broken sinks with copper sinks. Besides, the seat is quite small and not so comfortable while leg’s area isn’t spacious enough. Those aren’t big deal as I still can tolerate it.

What can’t be tolerated is the brutal way of how the audiences pushing each other just to get into the theater. They are like hungry people who are fighting for free foods inside. The scene was so scary. Seriously, the way the people here queue is worse than Medanese way!

Despite that, we still have a good time. It’s our first time watching movie together in cinema here, so obviously we are keeping the tickets for memory sake. :D

Five things on December

1. An impromptu road trip to Kuching
We went to Kuching by 6 hours bus on last week, from Wednesday night to Friday night. Not to have fun but to settle some tiny step of the marriage registration. We didn’t get the document that we needed though. We ended up having an unexpected city tour to kill our time and came across an interesting insurance billboard with tagline “I got mine here“.

The only thing that I like from Kuching is The Spring – the hottest mall in the city and probably the only mall in this state (read: Sarawak) which has the basic brands from KL in which Sibu (where my home is now) doesn’t have. You know: Padini concept store with Vincci blablabla, Body Glove, MPH bookstore, Manhattan Fish Market and all.

2. 50% settling down
We had our church wedding done last month, so we are married according to our religion and in God’s eyes. We had done the Chinese ceremony and held the wedding banquet, so we are married according to Chinese tradition and people’s eyes. We had a place that we can call as our home, we had purchased new working table and chairs, and we also had bought a new LCD and laptop for me. We are all ready to start our own family and own business.

But, we haven’t go through ROM (Registration Of Marriage), so we are not legally married according to law and in government’s eyes – let alone rushing in making a baby. The stress is worse than thinking about LDR. The good news is, we are walking on the right path and although it takes longer time, we are sure that we can get the certificate in time.

3. Three keyboards in a month time
We bought the first keyboard at PC Fair for RM25 only per set (keyboard and mouse) right after we bought the laptop and LCD. We used it for a week or so only and both set of keyboards went KABOOM as in the keyboard kept on disconnected – how to work like this? We assumed that the batch was faulty one hence they sold it at such a low price.

It has getting on my boy’s nerve since he had loads of work to settle that day, hence he threw it on the floor. Rest assure, he isn’t the type of man who will hit his loved one. I am safe for sure, but not with the computer stuffs. :P

Then we bought second keyboard at Delta Mall at RM25 each. On the second day, mine went crazy. The shift button didn’t want to work! KNS! I have to copy paste the symbol (@?” etc) from the internet cause I couldn’t type one. We purchased the third keyboard last night at Sanyan and requested the seller to try it. It works fine for now.

4. My first Tang Yuen festival with my new family
There was no colorful tang-yuen (made from glutinous rice flour) in soup but one color tang-yuen with peanuts, somewhat like mochi. Here also has tradition of having family dinner with loads of foods.

5. Two new ‘family member’ in the house
His sister brought home 2 new puppies, Lucky the male and Mimi the female. That means now there is 8 dogs and 3 puppies. Whew.. I have no idea how I (who don’t like cats, dogs, and whatever pets) can live in this home. But amazingly I can adapt with them. Mum, no worry, I don’t get so close with these dogs.

We are almost there

Yayyyyyy!!!! So happy and exciting, partly because I have found the suitable travel medical insurance plan. But mostly because I just got the single-status-letter which was mailed from Indonesia via DHL on this Monday. The mailing fee IDR260.000 really worthy. Much thanks to my parent for settling all those documents for me despite their busy schedule.

With that said, my boy and I might be going to Kuching by bus tonight and get another document from Indonesia Embassy. We are definitely making a good progress in getting the marriage certificate. :)

Two weeks to Christmas

I can’t stop emphasizing how fast time passes. Christmas is just 2 weeks away, we will leave year 2009 in 3 weeks time, I will hit mid twenty on next year according to lunar calendar and my brother will be going to university on mid of next year. Whew..

On december last year, I was busy with communion invitations and Christmas-packaging-design’s work while juggling with blogging stuffs and web design. While now, I am totally focusing on web design. Lotsa plan on our hands now.

Oh well, Christmas this year will be a different one. Hm..

The not so happy puppy

This more-than-one-month-old-puppy’s name is “Happy”, which is the 9th dog in the house. But his life is quite the opposite side of his name.

It was on this morning, my boy and I were working in front of our laptops when we heard a kaing-kaing (read: yelling sound of a puppy) sound from the garden. He ran out quickly and found the puppy fell into a bowl of hot water plus rice, which was supposed to be the dogs’ meal!

No thanks to the maid who chose to leave the bowl on the floor and ran upstairs to save the laundry as it started to rain. Imagine if it was a baby instead of a puppy. Luckily we can control the emotion, otherwise there could be another maid-being-beaten-by-employer kind of case.

We seriously didn’t mind if the Michael Kors zip gloves and the rest of the laundry was wet because of the rain.

Sleep after the incident. So cute, just like a soft toy.

Back to the incident, my boy quickly took the puppy out of the hot bowl and bathed him with cold water. But “Happy” still continued to yell in pain so we brought him to the nearest veterinarian, where the doctor gave him medicine.

The puppy continued to yell for almost whole day. He must be in a great trauma. Hey, whole body from head to toe fell into a hot water. I can somewhat feel the pain (cause I have had this incident before). Hopefully he can pick himself up and be a strong boy.
