Here’s a random-list post to summarize my 2010. Slightly late, but better than never. Many “finally” and “first time” moment.
January – April:
Registered our own design company Zhng Design Studio in January, also means welcome taxation and whatsoever paper work. I was still adapting to life in Sibu and the routine.
Had my first cheongsam, custom-made in time for Chinese New Year at RM65 only. It’s in my wishlist since college era so Yay for getting it now.
Had our ROM at JPN Sibu in February, which means we are married legally (finally) . Oh so relieve cause it took us almost 5 months of settling the paper work.
First time didn’t get to spend Chinese New Year with family in Medan, cause flight tickets were expensive to the max. We went back after the 15th day of CNY and settled the marriage registration there as well.
I dyed my hair for the first time at my favorite saloon in Medan. Another “finally” moment.
Met up with ex-housemates whom I haven’t met since 2007. Glad to catch-up again. We had dinner together at Full House, Sunway Pyramid.
Our all-time-dream came true. Bought entry level DSLR, Nikon D3000, and sold our Canon IXUS 870 IS.
The time when a friend hit me with “What’s next?” question; maybe start with managed hosting service or other new thing? I’ve been thinking about another start-up/online business since then but haven’t take any action yet in 2010.
May – August:
Change my blog theme, still pink, more white color, no more character illustration (woman in bob hair). No plan to change it yet, pure lazy.
Had a 10 days (or so) break, away from laptops and work; with 6 days honeymoon in Bali and spent few days in KL before flying back to Sibu. Couldn’t take our mind away from work and still checking mail with mobile phone even when we were in Bali. Not good.
First time for us sponsoring an event and it’s for first WordCamp in Malaysia. We didn’t attend it due to the bad timing. Couldn’t afford to fly again after the honeymoon trip.
Sibu had their by-election due to MP pass away (if I not mistaken). My first time attending speech forum and seeing the crowd. Very interesting to see how the gov party and opposition party worked to get people’s vote.
My six-months-social-pass was approved. Cost us RM620 and two months processing time.
My first time attending Borneo Cultural Festival in Sibu. The event didn’t live up to the name, it’s more to food festival + showroom, nothing special. I’ll stop complaining cause at least it made Sibu more happening.
Driving alone at 4am to fetch hubby from bus station. Totally unplanned. This means a lot to me as I’m not so confident behind the steer and it marked my first time driving in Malaysia.
Took a flight to KL, without hubby, and met up with my Mum & brother. He was going to start his foundation year there. Time flies!
Started my addiction towards chocolate sprinkles, which leads to me having bread most of the time for breakfast and never get bore of it. Bread + chocolate sprinkles / Nutella / scramble egg / serikaya jam / tuna fish / etc.
Heavy flood in Sibu for days.
September – December:
Had a memorable Hari Raya holiday. It was a 2 days 1 night trip to Sarikei and outer part of it. My first time went out with his families, including auntie, uncle, cousins, also first time visiting kampong/village. I got to eat curry (a lot!), happy yay. Haven’t posted about this trip yet.
Bought our second couple watches and first expensive watches – RM520 for two.
My second mid autumn festival in Sibu. More lanterns, more crowded.
My six-months-social-pass expired and we renewed it (one year period) in one day time only for RM105. Thumbs up to Malaysia immigration.
We moved back to KL, the city where we met and spent our college time.
Bought our first car, white Saga and I named it “Xiao Bai”. Here comes our first loan.
Mum gave us a double-sided pan and next, one of her Amway’s pans. We have started cooking simple foods since the moving, still doing it now.
Chopped off my curly hair and went for shoulder-length haircut.
Met up with my high school friend on Deepavali day.
Went to Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, for 6 days with hubby. Met up with my family, aunties, uncles, cousins, lovely family reunion. Met up with the inspiring Ollie. Attended my youngest aunt’s wedding. Traffic jam in Jakarta is three times (or more) worse than in KL.
Got a pocket camera, Canon IXUS 105, as one-year-wedding-anniversary gift cum Xmas present from hubby.
Had the busiest month of the year, also the busiest December ever, where works coming in from around the world, right after we came back from Jakarta trip. Worked around the clock but it paid off, cause we had a long holiday from Christmas until New Year chilling at home and turn the brain off from work.
Had a 2 days 1 night trip to A’famosa resort and Malacca town. Celebrated New Year Eve there.
2010 is the year where we started to settling down in Sibu, but decided to move away cause we don’t seem to fit in the town for now.
I learn one more dialect which is Foochow, the mother tongue for Sibu people. I’m not fluent in speaking but I’m getting good in the listening part.
I learn to live with dogs, not just one or two but more than ten. It doesn’t that hard and bad, but I hate the fur.
10 months of living a ‘sau nai nai’ life, no need to do house chore as my in-law hired a domestic helper to stay at home. It wasn’t good all the time, having maid just adding problem sometimes.
I learn that finding partner in business is as hard as finding partner in life (read: spouse). Seriously, you need to have the same passion, agreement, respect, and most importantly team work. Glad that we found each other *poke hubby* my partner in life and business.
We met so many wonderful and inspiring clients along the road which help us in improving our knowledge, skill, patient, communication, etc. We encountered several unpleasant experiences as well , it was frustrating at first but we realize that it’s all part of learning and growing.
I blogged less, with approximately 10 – 15 posts per month. Can’t even keep to 1 post every 2 days. Most of the time I forgot (or rather lazy) to post the trip/moment/thought. Shame on me.
Highlight of the year:
1. Got our marriage certificate in February
2. Moved back to KL in October
3. Bought “Xiao Bai” in October. Our first car and first loan in life.
4. Sold the pocket camera Canon IXUS 870 IS and bought entry-level DSLR Nikon D3000 in April
5. Travel to : my hometown Medan (March), honeymoon in Bali (May), met up with Mum in KL (July), Jakarta (November). Within Malaysia and Indonesia only, how we love our countries eh?
6. I learn FooChow dialect. Not so much on speaking, but listening part is improving a lot – at least no need translator already.
Let’s welcome 2011 with full energy!
