Small But Efficient

As a kid, I was wishing for a huge house as in bungalow kind of house with garden and additional metal building maybe, cause I want this that so many things so I thought huge space will be great to accommodate that many things. Heh. But as time passes and as I see more things in life, I realize that huge house ain’t what I really want or rather need.

You see, huge house usually equal to large space, which just leads us to decor dump more stuffs in the house to fill up the empty space. It will end up become messy. When it comes to cleaning, it’s another headache.

Now when you have small space, it means limitation and triggers our creativity to work things out. Maybe with the help of IKEA for the easy way out. :P Or more DIY. Well in my case now, small space helps me to eliminate unnecessary things and keep things simple + basic = compact.

So yea, the quote saying “Less is More” is so true.

Speaking of small space and creativity, here are videos of people that taking small space to a whole new extend. One is 250++ sqft only, another one is 340++ sqft only.

Another thing that I love, Apartment Therapy has this annual contest for smallest coolest home. Seeing all the entries is just so inspiring and make me go Wow-ing & can’t believe how they can come up with such a solution.

How Not To Do Business

… is by being an arrogant seller and sarcastic to your prospective buyer.

Ok, story telling time, it happened on last Monday when we went to nearby night market – open on Monday only. We bought our dinner and walked around to see what else we need/can buy. There were baby gifts, clothes, accessories, and many more.

Then we saw an iron-board, we’ve been searching for a decent one for ages. So hubby opened the iron-board to try how stable the board was and asked:

Hubby: Boss, how much is this iron-board?
BOSS : RM24++ *he just opened the stall, still organizing his items*
Hubby: Whoa, so expensive ah (yes, we’ve looked for a few in the market, this one a lot smaller, should be around RM1x only)
BOSS : Hah? Expensive ah? You do one yourself la, cheaper lo… *in arrogant voice, not humour ok*

Fine, I walked away and hubby was behind me.

Boss : Eh not cheaper, free somemore (no need money/bu yong qian de) *again, in arrogant voice, not humour ok*

Above conversation is in Mandarin.

Whoa, speechless with the Chinese uncle.

First, Night market is a place to bargain, so when prospective buyer says “so expensive“, seller usually will say “aiya no la, this is from where where good quality bla3.. “ to justify the price he gave, of course bluff one, who doesn’t want to earn more profit. Then he’ll say “how much you want? I can give you this this (cheaper) price la“.

The uncle can just control his emotion and said “it is like that one la”, end of story, if he wasn’t in the mood. Or explain why *refer to above paragraph for sample* Not by stabbing his prospective buyer with spicy childish words, in which we made a mental note to avoid buying from him in the future.

And to make it worse, he told us to do it ourselves. Is he in business or what?

Second, we walked away already and yet he was like not enough, still continued saying “Eh not cheaper, free somemore (no need money/bu yong qian de)”. At that time I felt the uncle was so childish. Yea DIY no need money one, cause I can just cut my hand to use as the material. Very funny, ha..ha..ha.. Am just being sarcastic to his words you know.

Guess the uncle was having a bad day or PMS-ing. He should have just stay at home and be grumpy himself. Sigh.

So, learn the lesson, peeps! When potential buyer says it’s expensive or offer ridiculous low price, tell them why (as in educate). Don’t use your silly emotion in business, save it for your emo day later when you’re at home yourself. Otherwise, you’re at risk of losing potential buyer.

Of IKEA Meatballs

Everyone says IKEA swedish meatballs meal is good, a must try if you go to the store. We never bothered to try it until our latest visit to IKEA on last week. Despite being weekday and passed lunch time, the food court was still packed with people.

Hubby and I have no idea about the meatball size :P so we ordered two plates with 10 meatballs per plate (RM10 RM8 cause there is discount on Tuesday :D ) and a vegetarian pasta, cause we were so hungry.

When we saw the meatball size, we looked at each other and said: Eh so small one, enough or not? Then we went to find empty table, found one with a left-over of 2 – 3 meatballs. I told hubby how can the person not finish it all, ckckck.. So basically I was so confident that I can finish all of the 10 meatballs myself.

But heh… guess I underestimated the small meatball. On his 5th meatball, hubby already felt unease and quite full. Me? I felt that on my 3rd meatball. :P Ended up I left 3 or so. Should have just ordered a plate and a pasta for the two of us.

As for the taste, it’s not my liking. My taste bud still prefer the meatball being cooked in soup just like the one back in my hometown, oh so yummy~!

Simple But Satisfying Meal

It’s safe to say that we’re done with moving and now settle down at the new place. The only thing left is a decent internet line, should be able to get it by tomorrow. Current back-up (P1 Wimax) is doing pretty well in the morning and afternoon, but turns to dial-up speed in late afternoon and evening. Sigh.

Aside from that, since it’s now a condo = small limited space, we’ll need to organize things smartly. Home improvement blogs is my bestfriend now. :D I see that document management system is good, might think of a simple one for us. Paperless, go green, save space, how awesome.

Well, settle down means we are back to our routine of cooking at home. Yay! :D We’ve been eating outside for the past 1-2 weeks, so uncomfortable and we even ran out of idea on where to eat.

simple lunch

Glass table + white chairs = awesome! Too bad the plates are too Chinesey (refer to the floral pattern) and less minimalist :P

Extra Heat and Haze

This early morning I still thought “Wah what a misty weather, shouldn’t be so hot today.” Heh, proven I was wrong. It turns out to be haze, said from Sumatra. Again, just like the good old time, I mean college time back in 2005 and 2006.

haze

We were thinking of shop for the best bookshelf speakers and electric stabilizer but can’t be bothered to leave the house.

Well, extremely hot weather + haze + tired from moving + not so stable internet line (am not talking about fast/slow) from our back-up P1 Wimax results in an unproductive day. Just feel so unenergized.

Drink more water, peeps :)
