I was surfing IMDB last night, in search of new/upcoming movie for blogging material on another blog actually. Then I came across this movie The Devil’s Double. The golden poster attracted me immediately. I read the plot but didn’t get what it’s all about & watch the trailer on Youtube, still didn’t get it. Duh. Guess my mind was working pretty slow at late night.

I took time to digest the two similar person in the movie and the title “double”, it clicked! Then only I understood that it’s about the late dictator’s son from Iraq – Uday Hussein and his body double (Latif Yahia). What more? It’s a true story! Wow, interesting fact that the ignorance me never know about.

All I remember from the 2003 invasion of Iraq was that, the regime of the long time dictator Saddam Hussein was finally ended. Something pretty similar to my home-country Indonesia back in 1998, except ours wasn’t a war and Saddam was much cruel. Other than that, I didn’t really dig the Iraq’s story. Guess I was too caught up in my final year’s exam -> about to graduate from high school that time, and ignored the world. -__-”

Since my interest was sparked, I googled and wiki-ed to learn more about body double this term, who Latif Yahia & how his story was, and most importantly I learn the cruelty of the late Uday Hussein. How he tortured the country’s sportsmen who lost in the game, how he ended someone’s life like killing an ant, etc.

One article leaded to another article. I was like having an impromptu history class, but not the boring one, and share the findings with hubby. All thanks to the powerful wonderful internet, I get to search news back in 2003, just a click away. So great! Imagine if it’s way back then I might need to go to national library and dig their archive.

I used to heard about how sadism their regime was, but never really dug into it. So this is really an eye opener. Besides, I’m always a blog person means my daily read is mostly blogs, where the language is more casual, seldom a news site. Reading articles from news site means formal English and lots of new vocabulary that I didn’t understand, but lucky I got English to Indonesian dictionary program to help me out.

Self note: need to start checking out international news site more often to broaden the vocab.

Another interesting finding came from the term body double or political decoy {wiki here} :

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had planned to bring down Indonesia’s first president Sukarno by portraying him in a pornographic film in the late 1950s.

The agency put together a pornographic film starring a Sukarno look-alike in bed with a blonde playing a Soviet agent. The humiliation caused by circulating the film was supposed to drive Sukarno from office but the plan was unsuccessful.

I ended up read all those articles for hours. If you’re tired of Royal wedding’s hoo hah, then take a time machine back to year 2003.

Movie will be out around July (for USA), can’t wait!

Went to watch I Am Number Four at the nearest cinema just now. Movie is not so fabulous and rather boring, like trap with seller of car insurance quotes for 90 minutes.

More to like a combination of heroes (have power and there is a group of people with power too) and Superman (parents send them from other planet due to war whatsoever), and other ugly monster movie. Romance part is so cheesy.

But I’m liking the cinema, except the chair. There is no noisy sound either from the film or audiences. Never notice this before until I stayed in Sibu for almost a year and experienced the oldie cinema there. What I used to take for granted become a WAH thing now.

It’s true that we need to lose something only to realize what we have now. Else, everything also take it for granted.

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for chiclit book and romcom (romedy comedy movie). As I was watching the trailer, I know that these two are must-watch for me: Going The Distance and Life As We Know It.

Going The Distance, starring Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. Capturing my attention cause it’s about maintaining long distance relationship. Oh so can relate to it (some part, not all) especially the part when people keeps on asking “Don’t you afraid that he might be going out with other woman” sth like that, in my case I would stir the topic to car insurance company and move on.

Life as We Know It, starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel (When in Rome). Interesting to see how two adults have to be caregivers of an orphaned baby girl. Hearing about this word “baby” frightens me sometime and this movie seems to show the silly and fun part of parenting.

Other than these two movies, I have a few things to look forward to as well. Super duper excited!

It’s my first time attending the Borneo Cultural Festival Sibu, which is held once a year for one week or more. My boy has been talking about it for years ago but I never had the chance to fly to Sibu during mid year.

This year I’m here in this town, must attend it else next year(s) might not have the chance already. But.. my boy has been extremely busy since the opening of the festival. When he has free time, the weather is playing with us (read: raining), and we have to postpone until last Monday. Pfiuh.

Since the name contains the word cultural, I was expecting some culture related stuffs. Yes, there is but not that much compare to the F&B booths. It’s more to a combination of fun fair + food fair + trade fair to me. Selling breads, drinks, weight loss pills, travel agent, English tuition, Maggi, Milo, etc.

Probably we went at the wrong time, hence less cultural performance. Aside from not cultural enough, the festival is quite an interesting one. If only we can have it to replace the current small night market. Open during weekend will do.

The first month of 2010 hasn’t ended yet and I already have so many first time story, from first time buying clothes online to first time getting my own business card and looking forward to my first Orange NJ dental implants visit. And recently I just had my first time burst out crying in the cinema (worse than when I watched Money No Enough 2 back in 2008). It is Tiger woohoo!, Malaysia 1st Chinese New Year movie, that brings such a heartwarming effect.

Synopsis of Tiger woohoo!
‘Woohoo’ (tiger dance) is a tradition practiced in a small village (Beserah, Kuantan) during a prayer ceremony every 60 years. As the only elder who knows “Woohoo” can no longer perform, his filial granddaughter put up a misleading advertisement which in turn attracts five youngsters from different backgrounds – bad-tempered bank security man Ah Beng, indecisive Char Kuey Teow hawker Ah Huat, effeminate designer Rain, university student Bobby and smart alec Alan – to be trained as ‘woohoo’ players. After some tough training, they finally look like a formidable team. However, few days before the anticipated festival day, the only ‘tiger head”‘is accidentally destroyed by the mischievous kids in the village.

We watched the movie on Wednesday hence the discounted price – RM7

First touching scene is when they have a family dinner. The ahbui asks his Grandpa why he keeps on smiling and Grandpa says because he is able to have dinner together with them (sth like that). Ahbui says,”But we aren’t eating any delicious expensive foods.”

I burst into tears immediately. The kind of crying moment that I had when sending my family to the airport (after my wedding ceremony in Sibu). It reminds me of how I used to have dinner together with Mum and bro, and how I’ve taken that family moment for granted. Then I remembered few weeks ago my Mum told me that she had dinner alone at Fountain cause my bro had extra tuition class. Having dinner alone outside is the thing that one will least look forward to after a long tiring day. I felt awful for not being able to accompany her.

Second touching scene is when the 4 little girls refuse to go back home cause they made mistake and the mother is very upset with them. Then their father looks for them and tells the story of how their mum used to be very skinny, talked also so soft one until she had the 4 daughters, that’s when she started to yell at them cause they are naughty. Whoa, so touching.

Anyway, back to the movie. We already anticipated to face the crowds like when we went for Avatar, but it turn up the opposite way. We were the second and third person to go in the theater. No queue and no brutal pushing. The audience was half than when we watched Avatar. Not sure if it’s because school holiday is over or because it’s local movie.

But whatever, this movie is a must watch! It has daily life stories that people can connect one. Sort of like Jack Neo’s movie, full with humor and life’s message. I wonder when my beloved country Indonesia can produce such movie with essence (or we already have it but I don’t know?), instead of movie with dirty humor, love story, and horror with weird title such as Hantu Puncak Datang Bulan – wtf? sounds like the ghost can have monthly period one. -__-”
