A Visit to Upin Ipin’s Company

One of the good things of being self-employed, working hour is pretty flexible. When tired with working on design for let’s say acai scams, we can go for a walk or shopping. ;)

Anyway, we spared our Tuesday morning to visit Les’ Copaque Production Sdn. Bhd, a local animation company that produces the famous Upin Ipin & The Geng – official site. Thanks to 95percent Academy for arranging the two-hours visit for their graduate. :)

The Boss shared how they started the business, which was quite inspiring to me. To be honest when I first heard about Upin Ipin, I gave my wtf look cause it’s a local product (what a typical mindset eh?) and the character doesn’t look appealing to me at all.

But see where they are now. Not only making name in Malaysia but also my home-country, Indonesia. And the staff also mentioned that more than half of the Facebook fans are Indonesian. -__-”

We also walked around each departments and got to see the men behind the animation. Sketching, modelling, rendering, whatsoever tons of process. Whew.. Made me kinda miss cubicle office environment, but not much. :P

Well, more pumping to do our next start-ups now.

Our Temporary Work Station

Moving to another state means we have to leave our working table, chairs, and white board behind. So currently we are working from living room with the view to the field. Can see people playing football in the morning and evening.

What a temporary work station. I can’t even place my 20″ LCD, hence using laptop screen at the moment. Still finding the right table that suits us and can fit in the space, still finding the right apartment, blablabla. We are taking baby step to fully settling down. :D

And so I’ve been looking online for home-office’s inspiration while searching for diet plans that work for my bro. Found this work-station from Share some candy that I like very much. First reason, very obvious, because it’s white! :P Love the racks as well.

Oh, it was raining this afternoon and I told hubby how awesome it is if we can have a small patio with comfy chair. Imagine myself sitting there reading a magazine, sipping a cup of hot tea + biscuits while enjoying the breeze with rain’s sounds. Talk about taking a short break from work and deadline. And that patio on the picture above fits well in my imagination! :D

On our way to fulfill the dream home office!

International Freelancers Day

Got the info from my Twitter timeline that 24 – 25 September 2010 is International Freelancers Day. Woohoo! Not just any event with no activity, there is going to be the biggest online conference for Solo Professionals. Free of charge but need to register. Fair enough. I’ve reserved my spot after going through the list of session on the website. *excited*

Love to hear that there is finally a worldwide event that I can attend from the comfort of my home. Probably still can multi-task, doing design work like drawing binocular illustration while listening to the talk. Thanks to internet, it shortens the distance. :D

My Dream Home Office

I should feel blessed for having a home office, or I should refer to it as workstation, although it is very simple and no where near beautiful or inspiring.

When we first bought the table, it seems to be enough for 2 person. But not anymore, our paperless home office suddenly have more paper, notes, books, short term health insurance NC quotes, etc. So, basically we need more space. Probably larger table with better design and color.

Here are two that I like:
- Top image, from here, I like the http text on wall and the light color of the wooden desk. Overall it looks very soft and clean, thanks to the white color of Mac also. No, I’m not gonna switch to Mac. But mostly PC stuffs is so fugly, ugh.
- Bottom image, from here, the table is so long, me like! Can put 3-in-1 printer. Also love how the table is nailed to the wall = legless table.

Hopefully I can fulfill my dream home office on next year ;)

What does June offer for me

June is all about opening our mind and making decision to change. Sort of turning point.

In terms of personal life, my boy and I have been discussing and weighing a lot of life aspects. Decided to make the change as well, which will take place in about 3 months from now. We are super exciting! If you are thinking about baby, scratch that idea please. Hehe.. It’s something bigger than purchasing TV mounts.

In term of business, we are in the midst of re-design and re-align both simplyWP and Zhng Design Studio; from the strategy aspect and also the interface. Time to really apply what we’ve learnt during the advertising course!

Oh btw, I just had my first online interview. You can read my insightful and inspirational stories *cough cough* on my client’s site, Between Us Girls.

In the process, I became one of simplyWP.net?s most particular customers as well as great colleagues with my designer, though separated by thousands of miles. Yes the internet has spawned personal and work relationships, but I would have never thought I would be working with someone in Malaysia, yes Malaysia.

Sachkia is residing in UK Virgin Islands and I’m in Malaysia, yet we get to work together thanks to internet and email. This (read: work with people around the world) is also one of the thing that I like from my job. It offers so many possibilities for me.

Happy Wednesday! :)
